Kristin Locatelli found Special Olympics Virginia after high school while looking for a way to stay active in sports she loved. She quickly discovered more than competition — a welcoming community where she built confidence and lifelong friendships. Now a multi‑sport athlete in tennis, golf, and basketball, the Special Olympics has given her even more opportunities to meet new people and make friends. One of her biggest challenges was being the only woman athlete on her basketball team, but her fellow athletes were very supportive, which boosted her confidence. Kristin also serves as a Global Messenger — a role that trains athletes to share their stories and promote inclusion — and works at the Henrico Sports and Events Center. She admires her parents most for their unwavering love and support throughout all of her Special Olympics activities.
